The Vermillion Ranch is located in a stunning and somewhat remote location; however, the location was once a stop for the Corps of Discovery Expedition, otherwise known as the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Second Lieutenant William Clark spent a day in 1806 watering his horses at the mouth of Sweetgrass Creek and remarked on the abundance of wildlife in the area.
Cutting one hundred-plus years ahead, the Vermillion Ranch saw a few settlers before the Vermillion family purchased the property in 1971. After restoring the Lewis & Clark Cabin, which was built in 1878 this charming cabin became a vacation rental in 1988 and continues to be a perfect spot for families, honeymooners, and explorers.

The Fishing
During your visit, you may fish the famed Yellowstone, the Boulder, the Stillwater, the Paradise Valley Spring Creeks, and, of course, a few secret spots we have discovered over the last thirty years. Privately leased waters are also an option. The location of the Vermillion Ranch and the Lewis and Clark cabin are perfectly located for families that want great fishing that can be done on their own or with a guide. Several ponds on the property have excellent fishing for trout, sunfish and bass. They are a perfect option for new anglers or kids. Catch and release is required.
