World-class fly fishing travel, lodge programs, guide school training, and honest destination advice from Montana to Alaska, the Bahamas, Brazil, British Columbia, Mongolia, and beyond.
Sweetwater Travel Company was founded in Livingston, Montana in 1995 by the Vermillion brothers and long-time fishing friends with a simple standard: find remarkable fisheries, build trips worthy of them, and protect the watersheds that make the fishing possible.
Today that work includes lodge operations, exploratory travel, destination planning, conservation partnerships, and one of the industry’s most respected fly fishing guide schools. The destinations are different. The standard is not.

Sweetwater’s best programs began with curiosity, long travel days, rough edges, and a willingness to find out whether a fishery was truly worth sharing. That field experience still shapes every recommendation we make.
Healthy fisheries support fish, wildlife, local communities, and the long-term future of travel. Sweetwater’s conservation work ranges from catch-and-release operations to local hiring, riverkeeper support, and nonprofit partnerships.
The right fishing trip depends on timing, target species, travel tolerance, outfitter quality, and expectations. Sweetwater’s advice is practical, direct, and based on the places our team has fished and operated.
Sweetwater Guide School is a one-week professional guide course on Montana’s Bighorn River, with small classes, hands-on boat training, and instructors who have worked in Sweetwater destinations around the world.
It’s not about the tug or fish landed. Never was. Never will be.
